Introduction to Spanish: Lesson 4

Spanish for it is lo.
It comes before so you say I it speak instead of I speak it. You also usually skip the word for I. Refer to Spanish and say:

1 translation: I do not speak it.

Spanish for I want is quiero.

How would you say:

2 translation: I want it.

3 translation: I don’t want it.

Spanish for now is ahora.

It comes from the word hour and it implies this hour so now. Again, you don’t pronounce h because you never do in Spanish so you just say ora. How would you say:

4 translation: I want it now.

Spanish for I have is tengo.

5 translation: I have it.

6 translation: I don’t have it because I don’t want it.

Spanish for you have is tu tienes.

How would you say:

7 translation: Why don’t you have it?

Spanish for you want is quieres.

How would you ask:

8 translation: Do you want it?

9 translation: Don’t you want it?

Finally, let’s learn something:

Spanish for me is me.

It’s just pronounced not like me in English but like me in met. It works just like lo does so you say he me sees instead of he sees me.

Spanish for you understand is entiendes.

How would you go about asking:

10 translation: Do you understand me?

Spanish for I understand is entiendo.

So, say:

11 translation: I don’t understand it.

Now, as you have two forms in English: I and me which are yo and me in Spanish, you have also two forms in English although they are the same word: you (equivalent to I) and you (equivalent to me). In Spanish, it is not the same word so the first you is tu as we have already learnt and the second word is te.

So, how would you say using the second form:

12 translation: I don’t understand you.

And the opposite of that:

13 translation: I understand you well.

If you say I want you you actually mean I love you and that’s what you hear in Spanish melodramas so much. Say:

14 translation: I love you.
