Introduction to Turkish: Lesson 1

This is the first lesson to teach the Turkish basics.

Turkish is a very phonetic language.

The alphabet is: A, B, C, Ç, D, E, F, G, Ğ, H, I, İ, J, K, L, M, N, O, Ö, P, R, S, Ş, T, U, Ü, V, Y, Z.

There isn't a word starting with Ğ.

Thick vowels are: A, I, O, U.

Thin vowels are: E, İ, Ö, Ü.

Hard consonants are: Ç, F, H, K, P, S, Ş, T.

Soft consonants are: B, C, D, G, J, L, M, N, R, V, Y, Z.

The word for this is bu.
The word for a or an is bir.
The word for table is masa.
The word for is is:
-dır = if the word's last vowel is a or ı and the last letter is a vowel or a soft consonant -dir = if the word's last vowel is e or i and the last letter is a vowel or a soft consonant -dur = if the word's last vowel is o or u and the last letter is a vowel or a soft consonant -dür = if the word's last vowel is ö or ü and the last letter is a vowel or a soft consonant -tır = if the word's last vowel is a or ı and the last consonant is a hard consonant -tir = if the word's last vowel is e or i and the last consonant is a hard consonant -tur = if the word's last vowel is o or u and the last consonant is a hard consonant -tür = if the word's last vowel is ö or ü and the last consonant is a hard consonant

You may distinguish the word is but we will use this word.
