Introduction to Russian: 15

We have also learned the informal word for you, which is ты. But we still haven’t learned how to form verbs in it.

Russian ты form of the verbs ends in шь.

So when we have, for example, хочу for I want, we replace that у with шь. However, in this case, a чш combination would be really hard to pronounce. Therefore, a helping vowel е jumps between ч and шь. So you get to get the informal you form:

Russian for informal you is хочешь.

Also remember that the word зтого/зто likes to go between the subject and the verb.

How would you ask (saying it as a statement and just rising your intonation to make it into a question):

  1. Remember whether it is это or этого, and also its position in the sentence.
  2. English will be "по-английски".
  3. Russian will be "по-русски".
  4. Mind the fact that "speaks" takes on "т" in the ending.
  5. The adjective "Russian" describes language, thus it should be "русский".
  6. Use the word "может" for "can".
  7. Use the word "можно".
  8. Skip the words "is it", they are subsumed by "нужно".
  9. Remember that "тут" is positioned in the middle.
  10. Remember that "не" is separate from the verb.
  11. Skip the word "are". Remember that this is to a female.
  12. The word "физика" changes to "физики", which means "of Physics".
  13. Just transliterate it.
  14. Skip the word "is". Moreover, remember that Russian does not have articles, thus there is no "the" either.
  15. The word order will be "station not here".
  16. The word order for this is "what you want?"
  17. Use "извините" for sorry.
  18. The sentences are just two words long each.
  19. Use the contrasting "О" in the second sentence.
  20. Remember that "you understand" is "понимаешь".
  21. Use the pronoun "я" in both sentences. Remember that "yes" is "да". Also remember that "хорошо" will come right after the subject ("Я") in sentence.
  22. Remember the position of "тут" - it comes right after "Я". Also don't forget to use the contrasting and (which is "О") in the right place
  23. Remember that "Maths" is "математика". Apply the transformation of the last letter to "и" in order to get "of Maths".
  24. Use "можно" for "can I have?". This sentence is just two words long.
