Introduction to Russian: 12

Let’s learn one word you already know and another one you don’t but it is still very easy:

Russian word for yes is да.

Think: Yes, dad.

Russian for and is и.

You can say and understand the last phrase which could be the answer to a question:

  1. Yes is "да", remember?
  2. The word for "it" usually sneaks in the middle between the subject and the verb, especially in such short sentences.
  3. Remember whether it is это or этого, and also its position in the sentence.

  5. English will be "по-английски".
  6. Russian will be "по-русски".
  7. Mind the fact that "speaks" takes on "т" in the ending.
  8. The adjective "Russian" describes language, thus it should be "русский".

  17. Skip the word "is". Moreover, remember that Russian does not have articles, thus there is no "the" either.

  19. The word order for this is "what you want?"
  20. Use "извините" for sorry.
  21. The sentences are just two words long each.
  22. Use the contrasting "О" in the second sentence.
  23. Remember that "you understand" is "понимаешь".
  24. Use the pronoun "я" in both sentences. Remember that "yes" is "да". Also remember that "хорошо" will come right after the subject ("Я") in sentence.
  25. Remember the position of "тут" - it comes right after "Я". Also don't forget to use the contrasting and (which is "О") in the right place
  26. Remember that "Maths" is "математика". Apply the transformation of the last letter to "и" in order to get "of Maths".
  27. Use "можно" for "can I have?". This sentence is just two words long.
