Introduction to Russian: 17

Let’s get back to learning more Russian.

Russian for well is хорошо.

Before learning the next bit, however, let’s first remember quickly how we said I want it:

Russian for I want it is Я это хочу.

The word хорошо follows the same position in the sentence as the word это and it goes before the verb. Can you guess intuitively how you would go about saying:

  1. Russian will be "по-русски".
  2. Mind the fact that "speaks" takes on "т" in the ending.
  3. The adjective "Russian" describes language, thus it should be "русский".
  4. Use the word "может" for "can".
  5. Use the word "можно".
  6. Skip the words "is it", they are subsumed by "нужно".
  7. Remember that "тут" is positioned in the middle.
  8. Remember that "не" is separate from the verb.
  9. Skip the word "are". Remember that this is to a female.
  10. The word "физика" changes to "физики", which means "of Physics".
  11. Just transliterate it.
  12. Skip the word "is". Moreover, remember that Russian does not have articles, thus there is no "the" either.
  13. The word order will be "station not here".
  14. The word order for this is "what you want?"
  15. Use "извините" for sorry.
  16. The sentences are just two words long each.
  17. Use the contrasting "О" in the second sentence.
  18. Remember that "you understand" is "понимаешь".
  19. Use the pronoun "я" in both sentences. Remember that "yes" is "да". Also remember that "хорошо" will come right after the subject ("Я") in sentence.
  20. Remember the position of "тут" - it comes right after "Я". Also don't forget to use the contrasting and (which is "О") in the right place
  21. Remember that "Maths" is "математика". Apply the transformation of the last letter to "и" in order to get "of Maths".
  22. Use "можно" for "can I have?". This sentence is just two words long.
